The entire world used one language.
As they moved from the east, they found a field in Shinar. They stayed there.
They said, "Come. We shall create and thoroughly burn ceramic blocks."
They said, "Come. We shall create a city and a tower which has its height in the sky. We shall create a name for ourselves, lest we are spread across the entire world."
God came down to see the city and the tower created by the children of humanity.
God said, "Look. They are one community. They use one language. This action is only the first of what they will do. Let us come down and split their language, so that they do not understand their own speech."
Because of this action, God had spread them across the entire world, and they stopped building the city, and therefore its name was Babel.
