sanila changelog
This page documents the changes/additions that have been made to Sanila grammar (and its documentation) over time. Additions to vocabulary (except grammatical words) are not listed here, however modifications or removals of vocabulary may be listed here if I feel like it. Note that some things might still be missing from this changelog, or have unknown dates, due to my past self's poor documentation efforts. Dates before 2024 were determined by looking at the version history of old Google Docs.
2025
(2025-06-03) Added standard letter names for some non-Sanila Latin letters.
(2025-06-02) Added the "Vocabulary" section of the grammar document, to explain some of the principles behind Sanila vocabulary creation.
(2025-06-02) Made 'je' able to turn nouns into causative verbs.
(2025-06-02) Replaced 'saneze' (game) with 'ineru', because the former word was far too similar to 'saneza' (strange), as a result of what I can only asssume was a cruel, sick joke played by 2018 me.
(2025-06-02) Added the "Semantics and Pragmatics" section of the grammar document.
(2025-06-01) Removed 'kuba' (dead), which was an accidental synonym of 'noco'. Also removed 'vajase' (boring) since it's basically a synonym of 'telube' (bore) except with a different part of speech.
(2025-05-30) Removed the 'fa' (group of three zeroes) digit word, as it was pretty much just a strange archaic holdover from Eisenlangs which became far less useful after the introduction of the 'žu' operator word.
2024
(2024-11-04) Added arithmetic operators.
(2024-11-02) Overhauled nominalization: introduced 'se' and 'ka', made the usage of 'so' more specific, and made 'ika' a nominalizing particle instead of a modifier.
(2024-??-??) Added the particles 'mo' and 'ko'.
(2024-??-??) Added the causative particle 'je'.
(2024-??-??) Added the particle 've', which reverses the subject and object of a verb.
(2024-??-??) Added letter names.
(2024-01-05) Sanila grammar documentation was moved onto this website instead of a Google Doc.
2021
(2021-09-23) A significant overhaul to the language, dubbed the "second edition" of Sanila, was published. The phoneme and letter 'ð' was removed from the language and merged with 'þ'. Added verbal adjuncts, verb grouping, and the 'ze' particle for optionally marking the end of a nominalized clause. Removed the "assignable pronouns" feature because I never actually really used it anyways. The part of speech once called "adjectives" are now instead called "modifiers".
(2021-05-21) Added "assignable pronouns", formed by suffixing "ði-" with any one or two syllables.
(2021-01-03) Added the particle 'ku' which initiates a relative clause, to make sentences easier to read.
2020
(2020-02-05) Quietly added interjections as a part of speech; the first two were "ha" ("ah") and "ho" ("oh").
(2020-02-02) Ordinal numbers past 9 can now be formed from concatenation of "ofe-" plus digit words (eg. ofepihe = 50th), instead of saying the digits words in sequences modified with "ofe" (eg. pi he ofe = 50th)
(2020-01-30) Numbers past 9 can now be formed from concatenation of "ju-" plus digit words (eg. jupihe = 50), instead of just saying the digit words in sequence (eg. pi he = 50)
2019
(2019-12-06) Added conjunctions; words like "and", "if" etc. are no longer "prepositions" and thus don't need awkward usage of nominalization to join clauses, among other things.
(2019-12-02) Imperative sentences no longer require a subject: "Te ru osu!" can now just be "Te osu!"
(2019-05-19) Rules for proper names are now documented: place names should be derived from endonyms and conform to Sanila's phonotactics, language names are "sani" + a place name.
(2019-05-11) The particle 'ri' is now described as being optional. Additionally, the anglocentric special behavours of "ba", "di", "ke", and "du" are clarified in their respective dictionary entires.
(2019-04-18) Added an extra syllable to a few single-syllable words for aesthetic purposes, for instance "se" → "semo" ("good")
2018
(2018-01-11) Sanila is created.
